One of the most powerful and practical concepts in Korean Saju is the Dae-un (대운, Major Luck Cycle). While your birth chart reveals your innate nature and potential, the Dae-un system shows how that potential unfolds over time through approximately 10-year periods, each governed by a specific Stem-Branch pair that colors your experience of that life chapter.
Calculating your Dae-un cycles requires knowing your birth date, gender, and the Yin/Yang nature of your birth year. For Yang year males and Yin year females, the cycles progress forward through the Stem-Branch sequence. For Yin year males and Yang year females, they progress backward. The starting age of your first major cycle varies — some people enter their first Dae-un as early as age 1, while others don't begin until age 9 or 10.
